Fire engulfs huts in Govandi slum, no casualties

Mumbai, Jan 31: A fire broke out in a row of huts at a slum cluster in Govandi area of Mumbai’s eastern suburbs on Saturday morning, civic officials said.

The blaze erupted around 10 am at New Gautam Nagar and spread to four to five huts. However, no casualties were reported in the incident, officials confirmed.

Four fire engines along with other emergency response vehicles were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and further assessment is underway, officials added.
