Mumbai, Feb 1: Mumbai police have detained a man from Pune in connection with a late-night firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in the Juhu area, officials said on Sunday.
The incident took place around 12:45 am when five rounds were allegedly fired outside the producer’s home. Shetty was present inside the residence at the time, but no injuries were reported. The gunshots caused alarm in the area and prompted an immediate police response.
According to investigators, the detained suspect was identified through CCTV footage captured in the vicinity before the firing. Bullet shells were later recovered from outside the building. Shetty’s security guard, who first noticed the incident and informed the filmmaker, subsequently lodged a formal complaint with the police.

Teams from the Juhu police station and the Mumbai Crime Branch rushed to the spot and began an investigation. Forensic experts and a ballistic team examined the scene to collect evidence, while police presence was stepped up around Shetty’s residence as a precautionary measure.
Senior officers said the motive behind the firing remains unclear, and a detailed probe is underway. A high-level meeting within the Mumbai Police was also convened to review the incident and assess security arrangements.
A case has been registered against unidentified assailants under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. Additional security has been deployed around the residential tower in Juhu where the filmmaker lives.
Rohit Shetty is among the most prominent names in the Hindi film industry, known for hit franchises such as Golmaal and Singham. The incident has revived memories of a similar episode in 2024, when shots were fired outside actor Salman Khan’s Bandra residence by bike-borne assailants who later escaped.
