Jaipur, Feb 16: A judicial inquiry has been initiated following a massive fire at a chemical and firecracker manufacturing unit in the Khushkheda Industrial Area of Bhiwadi, in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, that claimed seven lives on Monday.
The fire broke out around 9.30 a.m. at plot number G1/118B and quickly intensified due to the presence of highly flammable chemicals and firecracker materials stored inside the facility. At the time of the incident, an estimated 20 to 25 workers were present. While several managed to escape, seven workers were trapped inside and succumbed to the flames. One individual remains unaccounted for.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed deep grief over the tragedy, calling it extremely distressing. He instructed the district administration to expedite rescue and relief efforts and ensure proper medical care for the injured. Offering condolences to the families of the deceased, he prayed for peace for the departed souls and a swift recovery for those hurt.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also conveyed sorrow, describing the incident as profoundly painful and expressing hope that such accidents result in minimal casualties in the future.
Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly 90 minutes before bringing it under control. By then, the factory had been completely gutted. The intensity of the fire and explosions left several bodies charred beyond recognition, with rescue teams recovering remains from inside the devastated premises. Officials on the scene described the situation as grim and heartbreaking.
Additional District Magistrate Sumitra Mishra said preliminary findings indicate that the unit was engaged in the production of chemicals as well as firecrackers. The factory owner has been identified as Rajendra. Authorities are now scrutinising safety measures and potential lapses, with the judicial probe expected to examine compliance standards and accountability.
A strong police presence was deployed at the site as grieving family members gathered outside, demanding answers and action against those responsible.
