Patna, Aug 12: State-owned SJVN has commenced commercial electricity supply from its 75 MW solar power project in Jamui district of Bihar, marking another milestone in the company's renewable energy expansion.

SJVN said it has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for the Jamui Solar Power Project, which was developed through its wholly-owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL).

The project is expected to generate around 90 million units of electricity in its first year of operation and approximately 3,522 million units over its 25-year operational period. The electricity generated will be supplied to Bihar.

Developed across around 300 acres of land purchased outright near Hadhadiya and Kakanchaur villages in Jamui district, the project was built at an estimated cost of Rs 342 crore. The tariff for the electricity generated has been fixed at Rs 2.96 per unit.

The project was developed following a tender floated by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA).

Apart from supplying clean energy to the state's power grid, the solar project is expected to contribute to local employment and economic activity. SJVN estimates that the project will help reduce carbon emissions by approximately 82,250.74 tonnes.

The commissioning of the Jamui project further strengthens SJVN's renewable energy portfolio and supports Bihar's efforts to expand clean energy generation.
