Amaravati, Feb 22: A shocking incident has come to light in a well-known city school where a class teacher allegedly engaged in indecent behavior with six eighth-grade girl students. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act on Thursday, and the accused teacher, Govardhan Gondane, has been taken into custody.

City police had received information about the teacher’s misconduct with the students. Recognizing the severity of the case, Police Superintendent Mumka Sudarshan ordered immediate investigation. A female police officer, in plainclothes, conducted the inquiry at the school. Upon initial verification of facts, the Women and Child Development Department engaged with the students, who narrated the teacher's misdeeds.

The six girls detailed that Govardhan Gondane, who has been employed at the school for several years, used to behave inappropriately towards them. The accused reportedly gave obscene touches under the pretext of praising the girls, touched their thighs, and called a student alone into the computer lab to make indecent advances. There is concern that the teacher may have harassed other students similarly in the past due to his long tenure at the school.

Govardhan Gondane was produced before the court on Saturday and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.

In a separate shocking case in Amaravati, at a college final year get-together party, two men allegedly drugged a female student’s drink with a sedative and sexually assaulted her. The accused later blackmailed her for seven to eight months using objectionable videos made during the assault.

The accused have been identified as Chetan Ganesh Ambadkar and Akash Ganesh Ambadkar, both residents of Nirmala Colony, Badnera. The incident reportedly took place on May 26, 2025, at a hotel in Rahatgaav.
