Bhopal, Feb 24: Two separate complaints by a beautician and a woman domestic worker have led to the busting of an alleged sex exploitation and forced religious conversion racket in Bhopal, with two sisters arrested and three others on the run, police said.

The accused sisters, identified as Afreen and Amreen, were arrested after the women – a 21-year-old from Chhattisgarh and a 30-year-old from Bhopal – approached the police with similar allegations. Both claimed they were lured with promises of jobs, drugged, sexually assaulted and pressured to convert.

According to police, the gang allegedly targeted girls from economically weaker backgrounds, gained their trust by offering employment and then exploited them.

In her complaint, the 21-year-old beautician alleged that in November 2025, Amreen took her to Abbas Nagar in Bhopal, where she was given tea allegedly laced with an intoxicant by Amreen’s brother, Bilal, and raped while unconscious.

She further claimed that in December, she was taken to Ahmedabad on the pretext of personal work and introduced to a man named Yasir, who also allegedly raped her. Another accused, Chandan Yadav, is alleged to have sexually assaulted her multiple times between August 2025 and January 2026.

The survivor alleged that she was blackmailed with objectionable photographs and threatened when she resisted. She also claimed she was forced to wear revealing clothes, taken to pubs to meet affluent men, and made to consume drugs. On multiple occasions, she alleged she was sexually assaulted.

She further stated that she was pressured to change her religion and made to wear a burqa. The woman eventually managed to escape in January and went to Chhattisgarh before returning to Bhopal and lodging a complaint at the Bagsewania police station on February 22.

Police said a second woman, who had worked as a domestic help at Amreen’s house, filed a similar complaint earlier, alleging she too was drugged and gang-raped by the same trio – Yasir, Bilal and Chandan. She reportedly submitted video evidence to the police.

Cases have been registered against the sisters and the three men under relevant sections related to rape, criminal conspiracy and forced religious conversion. The three male accused are currently absconding.

The sisters reportedly lived in a flat in the Sagar Royal Villas colony in Bhopal. Neighbours claimed that frequent late-night visits by men and young boys had earlier raised suspicion, though police said all statements would be verified during the investigation.

The incident has sparked protests by local Hindu organisations, which have demanded strict action. Police have appealed for calm, stating that the matter is under investigation and urging people not to spread rumours that could lead to communal tension.
