Washington, Mar 4: Military forces from the United States and Ecuador launched joint operations in Ecuador on March 3 targeting what were described as “Designated Terrorist Organizations,” according to a statement by United States Southern Command.
In a post on X, Southern Command said the operations were aimed at combating “the scourge of narco-terrorism,” but did not disclose specific details regarding locations, scope, or duration.

“We commend the men and women of the Ecuadorian armed forces for their unwavering commitment to this fight, demonstrating courage and resolve through continued actions against narco-terrorists in their country,” Southern Command Gen Francis L. Donovan said in the statement.
Shortly after the announcement, Ecuador’s Ministry of National Defence of Ecuador posted that it was “launching a new phase against narcoterrorism and illegal mining.” Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa had earlier indicated on March 2 that intensified action was imminent.
The defence ministry later told Reuters that operational details of the “offensive” were classified.
Steven McLoud, a representative for Southern Command, said there was nothing further to add beyond the official statement. Requests for additional comment were also sent to the Pentagon and Ecuadorian authorities.
The development comes amid Ecuador’s ongoing crackdown on powerful criminal groups linked to drug trafficking and organised violence, which authorities have increasingly labelled as terrorist organisations.
