Guwahati, Mar 10: A video posted by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma showing a highway in the state resembling a Formula One racing track has sparked a debate on social media, with several users claiming the clip was created using Artificial Intelligence.

The 26-second video shared on X featured a caption with a red cross beside “F1 Track” and a green tick next to “Roads of Assam”. The post quickly drew reactions from netizens, many of whom alleged that the visuals appeared AI-generated.

Responding to the criticism, Sarma rejected the claim and insisted that the video depicted actual infrastructure in the state. He later posted another clip with the caption “Artificial Intelligence (red X) Assam Infrastructure (green tick)” showing a convoy of vehicles passing through a road lined with people holding BJP flags.

As the debate intensified online, several users posted images of damaged and potholed roads in Assam, claiming those represented the true condition of highways in the state. One user also shared a newspaper report stating that Assam ranks among the top states in India with the highest number of damaged highways.

Congress spokesperson Reetam Singh criticised the chief minister, accusing him of misleading the public. He said the video did not reflect the real condition of roads and urged Sarma to visit national highways around the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency to assess the situation.

Sarma’s cabinet colleagues defended him, saying critics were unable to accept the pace of infrastructure development in the state. Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika posted another video of a busy road during the BJP’s Jana Ashirwad Yatra and claimed it was the same stretch shown earlier by the chief minister.

Culture Minister Bimal Borah also shared a video of the Silapathar–Jonai national highway at night, asserting that the footage was real and not generated using artificial intelligence.
