Kolkata, Mar 18: Just days after the West Bengal Assembly election notification, authorities recovered a large consignment of explosives in Birbhum district, triggering alarm in the region.

Villagers in Kadasir village, under Nalhati Police Station jurisdiction, intercepted a tractor on Tuesday night that was suspected of carrying illegal materials. Upon inspection, they discovered it was loaded with explosives and alerted the police. The tractor’s driver fled the scene.

The police confirmed that the seizure included 10,000 gelatin sticks and 360 detonators. No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the origin, intended destination, and purpose of the explosives.

Local residents expressed shock over the discovery, stating they initially became suspicious when the tractor was seen moving through the village roads. The incident has sparked panic in the area ahead of the elections, and villagers have urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.

Authorities are now probing all aspects of the case, including who was behind the transport of such a large quantity of explosives and whether it was linked to any attempts to disrupt the electoral process.
