Mathura, Mar 21: Tension gripped parts of Mathura following the death of a self-styled cow vigilante, triggering protests and clashes that led to the blocking of the busy Delhi-Agra Highway.
The deceased, identified as Chandrashekhar, popularly known as “Farsa Wale Baba,” was allegedly run over by suspected cattle smugglers in the Kosikalan police station limits near Navipur.

According to reports, Chandrashekhar had received information about cattle smuggling and was chasing the suspects along with his associates when the accused allegedly rammed their vehicle into him, killing him on the spot.
The incident sparked outrage among locals, with large crowds taking to the streets and blocking key routes, leading to severe traffic disruption.
Police teams rushed to the scene and attempted to pacify the protesters. However, the situation escalated as some individuals resorted to stone pelting. In response, police fired rubber bullets to disperse the mob and bring the situation under control.
Despite the presence of senior officials, including the Deputy Inspector General, tensions remained high for several hours.
The blockade resulted in massive traffic jams on the highway, with reports of several commuters, including foreign nationals, being stranded. In the chaos, some drivers attempted to take alternate routes, worsening the situation.
During the unrest, the official vehicle of the Additional District Magistrate was also damaged by the agitated crowd.
Authorities have since deployed additional police personnel in the area and said the situation is under close watch as efforts continue to restore normalcy.
