Rally legend Hari Singh missing after speedboat mishap in Maldives; search underway

New Delhi, Mar 21: Renowned Indian rally driver Hari Singh (59) has gone missing following a speedboat accident in the Maldives, prompting an extensive search operation by authorities.

The incident occurred near V Felidhoo island, where the speedboat carrying seven persons reportedly overturned. Gautam Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of Raymond Group, sustained injuries but was rescued along with several others.

According to reports, two other Indian passengers are also missing along with Hari Singh, while rescue efforts by Maldivian authorities, supported by the Indian Navy, are ongoing.

The development has triggered concern across the motorsport fraternity, with rally driver Rattan Dhillon expressing hope for Singh’s safe return and describing him as a “true legend of Indian motorsport.”

Hari Singh is widely regarded as one of India’s finest rally drivers, having won the Indian National Rally Championship five times in the 1990s. He also clinched the Asia Zone Rally Championship title and represented India in several international competitions.

In later years, he served as Head of Operations at JK Tyre Motorsport and worked closely with Mercedes-Benz India as a chief instructor.

Search operations continued for over 24 hours, with teams scouring the accident site amid hopes of locating the missing passengers.
