Mumbai, Mar 26: In a major boost to urban connectivity, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to construct a 5.5-km-long high-speed corridor aimed at decongesting traffic and improving cross-city travel in Mumbai.
The proposed greenfield project will connect Goregaon (Film City) to Magathane, running parallel to the Western Express Highway. The corridor will serve as a crucial link between the upcoming Mumbai Coastal Road (Versova–Bhayander stretch) and the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR).

Officials said the project will be built entirely from scratch and will act as a direct gateway between key arterial routes. Motorists will be able to seamlessly travel from the coastal road to the eastern suburbs via the GMLR, which includes a twin tunnel at Film City in Goregaon and further connectivity towards Mulund and Airoli in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The initiative is part of a broader plan to integrate major road networks through high-speed corridors, addressing persistent congestion on both eastern and western express routes.
Authorities estimate that the new corridor could significantly cut travel time—from nearly one hour to under 10 minutes—offering major relief to daily commuters.
Preliminary planning has been completed, with officials currently working on clearing encroachments and other obstructions along the proposed alignment. Cost estimates will be finalised before floating tenders.
The project is targeted for completion by mid-2029, subject to approvals and execution timelines.
