Mumbai, Mar 26: A prominent businessman from Thane was killed after a speeding car, allegedly driven by a minor, rammed into him while he was cycling in Kalyan, police said.

The victim, Srinivas Tandale, died on the spot following the impact. CCTV footage of the incident shows the car hitting the bicycle from behind on the left side of the road, flinging the victim into the air.

According to preliminary investigations, a 17-year-old boy allegedly took the car keys from his residence and drove onto the Ring Road. While speeding, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into Tandale.

Police acted swiftly, seizing the vehicle and taking the minor into custody on Wednesday morning. A case has also been registered against his mother, Kamini Yogesh Pandey, while legal action is being initiated against the father for alleged negligence.

The accident occurred on the Ring Road near Chandori, which locals claim has become accident-prone following the removal of barricades, leading to increased speeding.

Residents and members of a local cycling group have raised concerns over safety in the area, stating that it has become risky for pedestrians, joggers, and cyclists.

In protest, locals and cycling enthusiasts have planned a demonstration demanding stricter traffic regulation and improved safety measures.
