New Delhi, Mar 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a virtual meeting with Chief Ministers on Friday to review measures aimed at ensuring uninterrupted fuel and essential commodity supplies, as the West Asia conflict enters its fifth week.
The meeting comes as India takes steps to mitigate the impact of disruptions caused by Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor. Officials said states will play a crucial role in implementing the Centre’s strategies to maintain supply stability.

Addressing Parliament recently, Modi stressed the need for close coordination between the Centre and states, describing the current crisis as “unique” and requiring unconventional solutions. He urged states to prioritise uninterrupted supply of essential goods.
“The uninterrupted supply of essential commodities must be the topmost priority for every State,” the Prime Minister said, calling for renewed cooperation in line with the “Team India” approach.
Modi recalled the coordinated response during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Centre and states worked closely through regular virtual meetings. Beginning in March 2020, he held multiple interactions with Chief Ministers to manage testing, treatment, and later vaccination efforts across the country.
He emphasised that similar cooperation would be crucial in addressing the current global energy and supply challenges.
Officials said the upcoming meeting is expected to focus on ensuring fuel availability, stabilising supply chains, and maintaining price control amid global volatility.
As India navigates the ongoing geopolitical crisis, the Centre’s push for coordinated action underscores the importance of federal cooperation in safeguarding the country’s economic and supply security.
