Panaji, Aug 30: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday directed Goa Police to get to the root cause of the alleged shootout targeting a casino firm director in Porvorim, asserting that such incidents cannot be tolerated in the state.
“We will find out why the incident took place, how it took place and what is the intention behind the shootout. We will go to the root cause of the shootout. I have full faith in Goa Police and the accused will be arrested,” he said.
Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio, said the Porvorim shootout was a one-of-a-kind incident in the state during his eight years as chief minister.

“This incident is condemnable. I have directed the Home Department and Goa Police to arrest the accused in the case,” he said.
The chief minister said he had conducted a detailed inquiry into the incident.
“Attack on a businessman is not acceptable and such an incident is not acceptable in the state of Goa. I have asked police to find out the reason behind the attack,” Sawant said.
He said police would arrest the accused as soon as possible.
“The state government and Goa Police will not tolerate such incidents in the state in future. The government will continue to take precautions to avoid such incidents,” Sawant said.
Two unidentified persons allegedly opened fire at Srinivas Nayak, director of Majestic Pride Group, which operates offshore and onshore casinos in Goa.
The incident occurred around 8.45 pm on Friday at Majestic Hotel in Porvorim. Nayak escaped unhurt in the incident.
Police said the suspects were already waiting outside the hotel when Nayak left his office located on the premises.
Nayak told police that he was attacked while he was about to get into his car to return home.
