Daughter among 4 held in 2023 ‘natural death’ murder twist

Chandrapur, Mar 27: A case initially believed to be a sudden medical death has taken a dramatic turn, with police in Maharashtra arresting four persons, including the victim’s daughter, in connection with a suspected murder that dates back to April 2023.

The deceased, identified as Jayant Ballawar (45), had left home for duty when his daughter Arya Ballawar allegedly served him a milkshake. Shortly after reaching his office in Chandrapur, he reportedly felt unwell, collapsed, and was declared dead. At the time, the death was recorded as due to sudden illness, and no postmortem was conducted.

Police now suspect that Arya, along with three others, had conspired to kill him. Investigations indicate that she had been in a relationship with Ashish Shedmake since 2022, which was opposed by her father. Authorities allege the duo planned the murder to overcome this opposition.

According to officials, Arya allegedly sought the help of her cousin Chaitanya Gedam, paying him Rs 5,000 to procure poison, while another individual is suspected to have supplied the substance.

The poison was allegedly mixed into the milkshake consumed by Jayant Ballawar, with delayed symptoms preventing immediate suspicion.

Following the incident, Arya and Ashish reportedly got married. However, their relationship later deteriorated, with frequent disputes. The case resurfaced last week after Ashish approached the police and allegedly confessed, revealing details of the planned killing.

Acting on the confession, police arrested all four accused, who are currently in custody. Further investigation is underway.
