Odisha, Mar 28: At least five people, including four women, were killed and more than 20 others injured after a tourist bus lost control and crashed into a roadside rock in Odisha’s Nayagarh district late Friday night, police said.

The private bus, carrying over 40 passengers from Berhampur to Harishankar on an excursion, reportedly went out of control before ramming into a large rock and overturning.

The deceased include the driver and four passengers, identified as Hari Patra, Laxmi Patra, Suprabha Sahu and Sumati Sahu, all residents of Berhampur.

The impact of the crash was severe, with several passengers thrown out of the vehicle, while more than 10 others were trapped beneath the mangled bus.

Rescue teams from nearby police stations, along with fire service personnel and ambulances, rushed to the spot and launched a major rescue operation. Victims trapped inside the wreckage were pulled out using gas cutters.

The injured were initially taken to a nearby hospital, with around 15 critically injured passengers later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment.
