Mumbai, April 6: Varada Ullal (87), founder-chairman of Bharat Co-operative Bank (Mumbai) Limited and former president of the Billava Association Mumbai, passed away on Monday evening in Mumbai following a brief illness.
The nearly 94-year-old social organisation, one of the city’s most respected institutions, mourns the loss of a visionary leader.

Recognising the need for a community-owned bank to strengthen the Billava community financially, he secured approval from the Reserve Bank of India and founded Bharat Bank, serving as its first Chairman.
A financial expert and visionary, Ullal helped shape the institution’s mission and structure, remaining actively engaged with the Association until recent times. His passing is being described as an irreplaceable loss to the Billava community.
