Mumbai: Two held with ganja worth Rs 5.35 lac in MIDC police crackdown

Mumbai, Apr 9: The MIDC Police have arrested two persons for allegedly possessing over 21 kg of ganja intended for sale in Andheri East.

The accused have been identified as Ranit Hemanto Aas (23) and Arijit Tapas Aas (26), both residents of Aarey Milk Colony in Goregaon East.

According to police, the duo was intercepted around 12.30 am near Bastiwala Compound on Mahakali Caves Road by a patrol team led by PSI Anandrao Kashid. Their suspicious behaviour prompted the officers to question them, but they failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding the contents of their bags.

A search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of 21.460 kg of ganja, including leaves, flowers and buds, valued at approximately Rs 5.35 lakh.

A case has been registered at the MIDC Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, based on a complaint filed by police hawaldar Gautam Gahininath Bade.

The accused were taken into custody and formally arrested after interrogation. They have undergone medical examination and will be produced before the court within the stipulated time for further proceedings.

Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the accused’s background and any possible links to larger drug networks. The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior officers, including DCP (Zone 10) Datta Nalawade.
