Mumbai, Apr 13: A tragic road accident near Kalyan in Mumbai claimed the lives of at least nine people, while two others were left critically injured after a dumper truck crashed into a car on Monday, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Rayta Bridge along the Kalyan–Murbad road. According to initial reports, the car, which was heading towards Murbad from Kalyan, collided head-on with a mixer truck.
Authorities said that 12 passengers were travelling in the car at the time of the crash. Eight victims died instantly at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries later at a hospital. The two injured survivors are currently undergoing treatment and remain in critical condition.

Police officials stated that the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations. Meanwhile, emergency teams from the Titwala Police Station rushed to the site soon after receiving information and began rescue and relief operations, with assistance from local residents.
Thane Superintendent of Police D.S. Swami confirmed the toll, noting that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding or loss of control may have led to the collision.
The crash also triggered a major traffic jam along the Titwala–Kalyan stretch near Rayta Bridge, significantly disrupting vehicular movement in the area.
