Mumbai, Apr 15: In a disturbing case from Maharashtra’s Amravati district, police have arrested a man accused of sexually exploiting at least 180 minor girls and recording more than 350 obscene videos, triggering outrage and calls for a deeper probe.

The accused, Mohammad Ayaz alias Tanveer from Paratwada, allegedly trapped minor girls through online platforms and lured them into relationships before taking them to cities such as Mumbai and Pune, where he filmed explicit videos.

Investigators said the videos were used to blackmail victims and force them into prostitution, with several clips reportedly circulated online. The minors were allegedly targeted through WhatsApp and Snapchat groups.

The case came to light after a complaint by Rajya Sabha MP Anil Bonde, who also demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and warned of protests if stringent action was not taken.

Police acted swiftly to arrest the accused and produced him before a court, which remanded him to seven days of police custody. His mobile phone has been seized, and officials said it contains multiple objectionable videos.

Authorities are now probing whether the accused was part of a larger criminal network. The Cyber Cell is analysing the digital evidence and tracing the circulation of videos online.

Members of the local Muslim community have also approached police.
