Mumbai, Apr 19: A tense situation unfolded at Manmad railway station in Maharashtra’s Nashik district when a mentally challenged man climbed onto a gantry and dangled from high-tension overhead wires, prompting authorities to shut off power and temporarily disrupt train operations.
The incident occurred on Friday and lasted for nearly 40 minutes, officials said. A video that later surfaced on social media shows the man moving across the station roof while railway staff and bystanders made repeated attempts to rescue him.

Witnesses reported that the man, believed to be in his 30s and partially unclothed, climbed from a platform roof onto the gantry before hanging dangerously from overhead electrical equipment. Concerned passengers gathered on platforms as several individuals tried to reach him and bring him down safely.
Police and railway personnel remained on high alert throughout the ordeal. According to Swapnil Nila, the incident began around 3 pm. Authorities immediately cut power to the overhead equipment (OHE) to prevent electrocution and ensure a safer rescue operation.
As a precaution, a few trains were diverted to alternate platforms, causing brief disruptions in services. The man was eventually brought down safely, and normal train operations resumed shortly afterward, officials confirmed.
