Mangalore: First Round of Gulf Dirt Track National Championship on March 17-18

Mangalore, Mar 9:
The first round of ‘FMSCI Championship-Gulf Dirt Track National Championship-2012', sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation, will be held here on Saturday March 17 and Sunday March 18.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday March 9, general manager marketing, Bijoy said that top motorcycle riders will participate in this round. Mumbai-based Sportscraft and Mangalore Motor Sports Association are organizing this event which will be held at Government Fisheries College grounds.

The total points secured by each rider in this round will qualify them for the ‘Gulf Dirt Track National Championship–2012’.The dirt track racing is being organized on the model of Formula 1, the riders have to negotiate zig-zag tracks at high speed, and maneuver on silted tracks in order reach the final crease, he said.
 
Six rounds will be held in different categories and the first place winner will get a cash award of Rs 1,75,000 and a trophy. The riders who secures maximum points in five rounds will get a total of Rs 4,50,000 in cash and a trophy. Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) will insure every rider for up to Rs 2 lac.
 
National racers such as Bangalore-based TVS rider Pramod Joshua and R Nataraj will be challenged by Harit Noha, Siddant Nayak, Adnan Ahmed, Allen Sequeira, Javed Sheikh, Joachim D’Silva from Goa, Vineet Kurup, Shameem Khan and Nasik-based Ganesh Lokhande in the first round of the championship.
 
Ace riders Jagjit Singh, Kannan Naidu, Kshitiz Shukla from Mumbai, Kush Rao fom Goa, Mansingh Takoor from Nasik, Firoz Khan, Ismail Sheikh and Akash Sattute from Aurangabad, Suhail Ahmed and Vishwas S D from Bangalore will compete in the toughest race in private group B category.
 
TVS riders Yuva Kumar and Abhijit Shetty, Aditya Takoor and Anish Nair from Nasik, Keith Dias, Wasim Sheikh, and Irfan Khilledar from Goa will compete in the up-and-coming category.
