Bantwal, Mar 10: Karnataka Information Commission has levied a fine of Rs 5,000 on former tahsildar of the taluk, Narayana Rao in connection with inordinate delay in providing information relating to an application made by people for pension under ‘Sandhya Suraksha’ scheme of the state government.

On January 12, 2008, Shankari Amma and Subraya Bhat from Pattumudi in Mani village in the taluk had applied for the said pension. The taluk office failed to provide any information about the application. Both of them then sought information under the Information Act, from the then tahsildar, Narayana Rao.  However, they failed to get any response from the tahsildar within the prescribed time limit. Relating to this case, a person named P Gopal Shastri had filed a complaint with Information Commission.

Information commissioner Dr Shekhar D Sajjanar, through an order issued to the assistant commissioner of the district, asked the latter to recover the said fine of Rs 5,000 from the former tahsildar named above.
