Thane, Apr 29: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has launched an investigation into the stabbing of two security guards in Thane district, amid claims that the accused may have links to “anti-national activities,” police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Jabar Ansari, a 31-year-old chemistry instructor, allegedly attacked the guards with a knife following an altercation on Monday morning, April 27.

According to police, the incident took place at an under-construction building in the Mira Road area of Naya Nagar. Ansari, who had reportedly lived in the United States for some time, approached the guards seeking directions to a mosque.
Police sources said the victims claimed that Ansari asked them to recite the ‘Kalma’, an Islamic verse. When they were unable to do so, he allegedly attacked them with a knife.
Both injured guards were rushed for medical treatment, and their condition is reported to be stable.
Authorities said the Maharashtra Police are probing all possible angles, including the accused’s background and any potential extremist links, while the ATS has stepped in to further investigate the case.
