Udupi, Apr 29: District fire officials have clarified that there was no delay in the response by the Udupi fire station to the blaze reported at a commercial building near the city bus stand.

The officials stated that the Udupi fire station has only one water tender. As soon as a call was received regarding the fire accident at Khadar Commercial Building in Udupi, the ongoing operation elsewhere was halted midway and the vehicle was rushed at top speed to the spot.

They said the intensity of the fire was severe, making it very difficult to bring the blaze under control. Fire personnel risked their lives, entered the building, and continuously sprayed water. Through their operation, they managed to save lives and prevent the fire from spreading to around 17 shops, six bikes, the nearby City Centre Mall, and other shops.

The officials asserted that there was no delay in the fire service response.

They further stated that when the fire broke out at Khadar Commercial Building, the water tender had gone to extinguish a grassland fire near Koti Chennayya Road at Kadekar 12th Cross. The water tender from Malpe fire station had also proceeded to Shirva Kuthyar to attend another fire incident.
