Mumbai, May 1: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday inaugurated the 13.3-km-long Missing Link project on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, coinciding with Maharashtra Day.
The newly developed stretch is expected to shorten the distance between Mumbai and Pune by around 6 km, reducing travel time by approximately 20 to 30 minutes and easing congestion on one of the busiest highways in the region.
Officials said that in the initial phase, the route will be opened only for light vehicles. Bus services will be introduced in the next phase, while heavy vehicles will continue to use the existing route.
On the occasion, Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, received a Guinness World Records certificate for the world’s widest underground tunnel, measuring 22.33 metres, constructed in the Lonavala stretch of the project.
