Sultanpur, May 3: Four children were injured after a firecracker exploded during celebrations marking the birth of a child in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred in Narayanpur village under the Kotwali Nagar police station limits, where a family was celebrating the occasion by bursting firecrackers.

According to police sources, one of the firecrackers fell onto gravel and exploded, causing debris to scatter and hit children standing nearby. Circle Officer Saurabh Samant said the impact led to gravel pieces flying, resulting in injuries to the children’s legs.

The injured were rushed to the district hospital. After initial treatment, two of them — Raghavendra Singh (10) from Payagipur and Mohammad Subhan (17) from Narayanpur — were referred to a government medical college for further care. The other two injured, Harsh (5) and Yash (10), both residents of Narayanpur, were treated and discharged.

Following the incident, police conducted a raid at a firecracker trader’s premises in Pratapganj market on the directions of Superintendent of Police Charu Nigam. Officials said a large quantity of illegal explosive material was seized and further legal action is underway.
