Mumbai, Aug 12: Two people, including a two-and-a-half-year-old child, were killed and four others injured after a massive fire broke out on the 11th floor of a highrise on Baptista Road in Vile Parle (West) here on Tuesday night.

Around a dozen fire tenders rushed to the spot and firefighters brought the blaze under control after nearly an hour of efforts. Firefighters rescued people who were trapped inside the building, while cooling operations were carried out after the fire was brought under control.

According to Dr Mugdha, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Nanavati Hospital, six people were brought to the hospital following the incident. Two of them were declared dead on arrival.

The deceased were identified as two-and-a-half-year-old Abir and 23-year-old Ankita.

The injured were identified as 32-year-old Parth, 64-year-old Hiren, Yashasvi and Abhishek. All four were reported to be in stable condition.

Fire Officer V Bhosale said the exact cause of the fire would be known only after an investigation.

“The fire broke out on the 11th floor of the building. It has been brought under control. Eight fire tenders are at the scene. The situation is currently under control and cooling operations are underway,” he said.

According to the fire officer, several people who were trapped on the terrace were rescued.

The incident triggered a major firefighting operation in the area, with fire personnel working to rescue those trapped inside and prevent the blaze from spreading.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
