US denies Iranian missile strike on warship in Strait of Hormuz

Daijiworld Media Network - Washington

Washington, May 4: The United States Central Command (Centcom) has denied claims that one of its naval vessels was struck by Iranian missiles, amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement posted on X, Centcom said that “no US Navy ships have been struck,” dismissing earlier reports from Iranian sources. It added that US forces continue to support operations under “Project Freedom” and are enforcing a naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Earlier, the Iranian military had claimed it prevented a US Navy destroyer from entering the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz. The semi-official Fars News Agency reported that a vessel was hit by two missiles while allegedly violating maritime security protocols in the region.

The conflicting claims come amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Persian Gulf, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a critical route for global oil shipments and a frequent flashpoint between United States and Iran.
