Nagpur, May 8: A 26-year-old cashier of a lounge in Maharashtra’s Nagpur died after a foldable knife allegedly thrown jokingly by his colleague opened mid-air and pierced his chest, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred around 4.30 pm on Thursday at Tokyo Bar Lounge located on West High Court Road in the Dharampeth area.

The deceased was identified as Avdheshkumar Krishnakumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, while the accused, Ayush Sukhbirsingh Negi, hails from Uttarakhand.

Police said both worked at the lounge and stayed together in the Hilltop area of the city.

According to investigators, the two were joking with each other when Ayush allegedly threw a foldable knife towards Avdheshkumar. However, the knife reportedly opened while in the air and struck the victim in the chest.

The injured man collapsed immediately after the incident.

Ayush and other staff members rushed him to a hospital, where doctors later declared him dead during treatment.

Police said CCTV footage from the lounge has been examined as part of the investigation.

A case of murder has been registered and Ayush has been taken into custody for further inquiry.
