Kundapur: Two killed, several injured as tourist jeep collides near Dali in Kollur

Kundapur , May 17: Two tourists lost their lives and several others sustained injuries after a jeep carrying visitors from Kodachadri collided head-on with an insulator transport vehicle near Dali in Kollur on Sunday, May 17, in the afternoon.

The driver of the tempo allegedly fled the spot immediately after the accident.

The accident occurred while the tourist jeep was returning towards Kollur. The impact of the collision was severe, causing extensive damage to the vehicle and leaving several passengers trapped inside.

The deceased have been identified as Jyothi, who succumbed to injuries at the Kundapura Government Hospital, and Ariya Anoop (28), who died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Manipal.

The injured were shifted to various hospitals in Kundapur and Manipal through ambulances in a swift rescue operation.

The injured persons are: Arya, Ayan (5), Avani (8), Arjun (9), Mini, Aby (36), Anoop (37), Jyotish (43), and jeep driver Devaraj. It is learnt that the deceased and injured persons are natives of Kottayam, Kerala.

Vinay M Korlahalli, Bhimashankar and police personnel visited the accident spot and hospitals to collect information and oversee further procedures.

A case has been registered at the Kollur police station, and further investigation is under way.
