Udupi youth detained under PIT NDPS Act for drug trafficking cases

Udupi, May 19: The city police have detained a 26-year-old man under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking and drug consumption cases.

The detained accused has been identified as Abdul Rouf, a resident of Doddanagudde under the jurisdiction of the Udupi City police station. He was taken into custody on May 19 following detention orders issued on May 18 by the inspector general of police, Western Range, Mangaluru, based on a report submitted by the superintendent of police of Udupi district.

Police said multiple cases had been registered against the accused at Manipal police station, Udupi City police station, and Soladevanahalli police station in connection with narcotics trafficking and sale. One case each related to drug trafficking and sale has been registered at the three police stations, while two separate cases related to drug consumption were registered at Manipal police station.

According to police, the three trafficking and sale cases are currently under trial before the court, while the accused has already been convicted in the two drug consumption cases.

Authorities have ordered that the accused be lodged at Vijayapura Central Prison under the preventive detention provisions of the PIT NDPS Act.
