Mangaluru/Udupi, May 20: The Indian Meteorological Department and the Emergency Response Control Room (ICR-ER) of the union home ministry have issued a warning advising fishermen along the Karnataka coast not to venture into the sea from May 20 to May 25 due to the possibility of rough weather accompanied by strong winds over the Arabian Sea.
Between May 20 and May 22, strong winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph are expected along the Karnataka and Kerala coasts, Lakshadweep, Maldives, and the Comorin region. In some places, wind speeds may intensify up to 60 kmph.

In several parts of the southwest Arabian Sea, especially along the Somalia coast, wind speeds are likely to reach 45 to 55 kmph, with gusts potentially touching 65 kmph.
Strong winds blowing at 40 to 50 kmph are also expected over the Gulf of Mannar, southwest and southeast parts of the Bay of Bengal, and the Andaman Sea region. Authorities have warned that wind intensity may exceed 65 kmph in certain parts along the Sri Lanka coast and southwest Bay of Bengal.
Fishermen who have already ventured into the sea have been strictly instructed to return safely to the shore immediately. Officials have also urged fishermen to follow all official advisories issued by the Meteorological Department.
The warning message has already been circulated to all coastal states and Union Territories of the country, including Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, asking authorities to remain on alert.
