Chikmagalur, Mar 13: The bodies of Ramesh (22) and Shruti, who were in love with each other, and had planned to enter wedded life through registered marriage on Monday March 12, were confined to flames together on Monday. At last, only death could unite them.

Ramesh, working in a Shamiyana shop in Bhavikare village in Tarikere taluk of the district, was in love with Shruti, but his family was against the alliance. Shruti, an orphan, was looked after by a relative, who was not agreeable for the marriage. Both had decided to sanctify their mutual love through registered marriage on Monday.

However, Ramesh, when riding a motor bike on Sunday, died after getting involved with an accident in which a vehicle hit his two-wheeler. Shruti, shocked by the death of her lover, hanged herself at the kitchen of her home, leaving behind a death note in which she had written, “All of you tried your level best to keep us apart. But you will not succeed in your efforts. During our lifetime, we could not come together. But in death, we have become one. We will marry in heaven. Please bless us.”

The relatives agreed to her request to conduct the funeral of the lovers together, and assigned both the bodies together to flames on Monday.
