Bangalore, Mar 13: Former chief minister of the state B S Yeddyurappa, who had dropped enough hints of staging a revolt against the party high command through the Hubli convention on the occasion of his birthday, has announced temporary ceasefire. It is learnt that the terse message, handed over to Yeddyurappa by  Dharmendra Pradhan, in-charge of party affairs in the state, succeeded in coaxing Yeddyurappa to tone down his resentment.

Everyone had expected that Yeddyurappa might announce a revolt against the party leaders, and that he may launch a verbal tirade against the high command at the convention. But, Yeddyurappa, by keeping off from taking any drastic steps, surprised many. It is gathered that a few hours before the convention, he was closeted with some party leaders who are close to him at the hotel, where he asked them to be careful not to issue any adverse statements and not to make public any discord.

There was a marked shift in Yeddyurappa’s behaviour after Pradhan met him. Reportedly, the high command told Yeddyurappa through Pradhan that it continues to hold him in high esteem, and that it regards him as the people’s leader. “Please understand the current situation in which our hands are tied from giving you any important posts. If we give you any posts now, that move will become a debating point at national level, and the party, which is engaged in a tirade against corruption, will face reverses. We have given you important posts in the past, and will continue to offer you such posts in the future. If you take any drastic decisions in a haste, or get engaged in dissident activities, the party will not tolerate it. We hope you will not give rise to such a situation,” the message reportedly read.

After Pradhan met and delivered this message, Yeddyurappa cancelled the meeting he had proposed with his supporters. He had proposed to meet his supporters in a meeting on March 13 to take a decisive step about his future. Yeddyurappa has also conveyed to his followers and well-wishers that they should for the present, own patience and peace.
