Patna, May 23: The Bihar government led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has announced a major recruitment drive to appoint 100,000 teachers over the next five years as part of a broader effort to strengthen the state’s education system.

Under the new plan, around 20,000 teachers will be recruited every year, with official advertisements for vacancies to be released annually in July to make the hiring process more structured and predictable.

A high-level review meeting on the initiative was held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Patna, attended by Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari and senior officials from the Education Department.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also directed the department to design a transparent and simplified transfer policy for teachers across the state. The proposed framework aims to make postings more convenient and family-oriented.

As per the guidelines, female teachers will, wherever possible, be transferred within their home block or to nearby panchayats, while male teachers will be posted to blocks adjacent to their home block within the same district.

Officials said the move is intended to ensure greater stability for teachers while improving administrative efficiency and transparency in school management.

In addition to recruitment and transfer reforms, the government announced that school uniforms for students across Bihar will now be distributed through the Jeevika Self Help Group network. The initiative is expected to ensure timely supply of uniforms while also generating employment opportunities for women associated with self-help groups.

The Chief Minister said the reforms are aimed at improving educational infrastructure, addressing teacher shortages and promoting inclusive development across the state’s school system.

The announcement comes amid ongoing concerns and protests from aspirants of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) teacher recruitment process, who had been demanding timely notification of vacancies and greater transparency in hiring procedures.
