Doha, Oct 26: Mandd Sobhann, the world's premier Konkani cultural organisation since its inception in 1986, has worked towards preserving, promoting, and enriching the Konkani language and culture. It has always come up with innovative concepts to nurture the Konkani language among all ages of Konkani-speaking people and has promoted Konkani culture.
Mandd Sobhann is all set for its first world mega-convention from November 3 to 15 at Town Hall, Mangaluru, where it will feature 12 days, 12 hours and 12 minutes of non-stop singing by 6,000 singers in 300 groups singing 5,000 songs to set yet another Guinness record.

The mega convention is being organised as part of its 40th-anniversary celebrations commemorating four decades of dedicated service to Konkani language, music, culture and performing arts. It is also a tribute to the late Eric Ozario whose remarkable contribution to various fields of music and arts has left a lasting impact on the Konkani cultural movement.
Mangalore Cricket Club, Qatar and Mandd Sobhann have established a great relationship by jointly organising many international events. MCC Qatar once again joins Mandd Sobhann in this initiative ‘Vovlig Ani Mhojem Vojem Chalo'n’ for this Konkani music mega convention.
With support from MCC Qatar the gathering was held on October 10 at the IBIS hotel. Louis J Pinto, chief convener and president of Mandd Sobhann for this convention was in attendance. MCC president Denzil Christine Lobo, founder member & advisor Jerald D’Mello and Sunil D’Silva advisor and Mandd Sobhann Qatar representative were on the dais.
The evening commenced with a welcome by MCC general secretary and emcee Renzil D’Souza. This was followed by a prayer by the cultural secretary Primal Pinto.
President Christine Lobo welcomed the guests. Sunil D’Silva gave a brief introduction to Mandd Sobhann and its achievements. Jerald D Mello and guest of honour Louis Pinto did a soft launch of the convention and extended a special invitation to the Konkani Speaking community of Qatar.
Addressing the gathering Louis Pinto outlined plans for a large-scale cultural event, ongoing efforts and preparations in full swing that will bring together Konkanis around the globe irrespective of caste, creed and religion. He also sought the community's support for the event's success. An interesting interactive session followed.
