Maruti Suzuki to launch 100% ethanol-powered flex-fuel car on June 5

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, May 23: Maruti Suzuki India Limited is set to launch its first flex-fuel car capable of running on 100 per cent ethanol on June 5, marking a significant step towards cleaner and alternative fuel mobility in India.

The upcoming vehicle is expected to support the government’s push for ethanol-based fuels aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels and cutting carbon emissions.

Flex-fuel vehicles are designed to operate on multiple fuel blends, including petrol mixed with varying proportions of ethanol. The new Maruti Suzuki model will reportedly be capable of running entirely on ethanol fuel.

The launch aligns with the Centre’s broader strategy to promote ethanol blending and sustainable transportation solutions across the country.

India has been actively encouraging automobile manufacturers to develop flex-fuel-compatible vehicles as part of efforts to increase ethanol usage and support domestic biofuel production.

Industry experts believe the launch could help expand the flex-fuel vehicle segment in the Indian automobile market and encourage wider adoption of alternative fuels.

The vehicle launch is also expected to strengthen India’s ethanol economy by boosting demand for biofuel produced from agricultural sources such as sugarcane and maize.

Further details regarding the model, specifications and pricing are expected to be announced during the official launch event on June 5.
