Teen tourist dies after scuffle at Namo Ghat

Varanasi, May 24: A 17-year-old tourist from Sonbhadra died after an alleged scuffle with private security guards at the famous Namo Ghat in Varanasi during the early hours of Sunday, police said.

According to police, the incident took place in the Namo Ghat area under the limits of the Adampur police station. A group of tourists from Sonbhadra had reportedly visited the ghat when an argument broke out with private security guards deployed at the ramp gate over an issue.

The verbal altercation soon turned violent, during which Rajesh Chintu, 17, sustained serious injuries.

He was immediately rushed to the divisional hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Kotwali Assistant Commissioner of Police Vijay Pratap Singh said that four persons have been detained in connection with the case.

Police officials reached the spot soon after the incident and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to ascertain the sequence of events.

Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, police added.
