Washington, May 24: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated progress in negotiations with Iran as diplomatic efforts intensify to ease tensions in the Middle East and reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking during discussions with Indian officials, Rubio said there were “good signs” emerging from the ongoing talks and expressed hope that developments in the coming days could help stabilise the region.
US President Donald Trump has also claimed that a framework for a possible agreement with Iran is “largely negotiated”, with reopening of the Strait of Hormuz forming a key part of the discussions.

The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, has remained at the centre of the ongoing regional crisis following months of military escalation involving the US, Israel and Iran.
According to reports, the proposed framework includes phased de-escalation, easing of sanctions and broader negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme. However, Iranian officials have maintained that Tehran will not give up its right to peaceful nuclear activities.
The developments come amid global concerns over energy security, oil prices and maritime safety in the Gulf region. Analysts say any breakthrough in the negotiations could significantly reduce pressure on global energy markets and improve shipping conditions through the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Israel has expressed concerns over the possible deal, while several US political leaders have criticised the negotiations as being too lenient towards Iran.
