Mangaluru, May 25: Following a rapid increase in Ebola virus cases in several African nations, particularly the Democratic Republic of Congo, authorities in Mangaluru have stepped up vigilance. Special screening protocols have been implemented at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA).
As per explicit instructions from the Central Government, health department officials are conducting rigorous health screenings for all unwell passengers arriving from or transiting through affected countries, including the DR Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. This is part of a nationwide screening process currently underway.

The health department has issued a directive requiring any passenger who may have been in direct contact with the blood or other body fluids (such as sweat or saliva) of symptomatic or infected individuals to self-report. These passengers must visit the airport health officers or the health desk immediately upon arrival, prior to immigration clearance.
Furthermore, directives have been issued to increase the number of health screening staff stationed at the airport, and isolation facilities are being prepared in coastal regions as well.
While health officials confirmed that no passengers from Ebola-affected nations have arrived at Mangaluru International Airport thus far, comprehensive precautionary measures are being actively enforced. Authorities have identified Srinivas Port Hospital NMPA in Panambur as a designated quarantine center. Additionally, Wenlock District Hospital has been prepared to serve as an isolation and treatment facility.
