Amaravati, May 25: Andhra Pradesh continued to face severe heatwave conditions on Sunday, with Chityala in East Godavari district recording a scorching maximum temperature of 48.3°C, the highest in the state this season.
According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Tanuku in West Godavari and Piduguralla in Palnadu also witnessed extreme heat, each recording 48.1°C. Officials said the intense heatwave has pushed temperatures above 45°C across 13 districts.

SDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain stated that heatwave conditions have expanded significantly, with temperatures exceeding 44°C reported in 174 mandals across 17 districts. He noted that the impact is particularly severe in several mandals across Eluru, East and West Godavari, Krishna, Bapatla, NTR, Palnadu, Konaseema, and Kakinada districts.
Authorities have warned that the intense heat is likely to continue for the next three days. Jain urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during peak afternoon hours between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., advising those who must travel to carry adequate drinking water.
The SDMA has issued alerts indicating that severe heatwave conditions are likely in 29 mandals, while 166 mandals may experience general heatwave conditions. On Tuesday, the situation is expected to worsen further, with severe heatwave conditions forecast in 50 mandals and general heatwave conditions in 205 mandals.
Meteorological assessments suggest temperatures between 45°C and 47°C are likely in parts of Konaseema, East and West Godavari, Polavaram, Eluru, NTR, Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, and Prakasam districts.
Areas in Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Kakinada, Markapuram, and Nellore districts are expected to record temperatures between 43°C and 45°C, while relatively lower but still high temperatures of 40°C to 43°C may be seen in Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts.
Meanwhile, neighbouring Telangana also continued to reel under heatwave conditions. Sixteen out of 33 districts in the state recorded temperatures of 45°C or higher. Dummugudem in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Dharampuri in Jagtial were the hottest locations at 46.3°C, while Hyderabad recorded a maximum temperature of 42.1°C.
