Mangaluru, May 25: A routine night-time vehicle inspection in Mangaluru turned violent when a police constable attached to Urwa police station was allegedly attacked by two youths on a two-wheeler, in an incident now captured on CCTV footage.

The incident occurred around 2 am on Saturday near the Kodikal Narayanaguru Co-operative Society limits under Urwa police station jurisdiction. Police said two constables were on duty conducting vehicle checks when a two-wheeler carrying two youths came speeding through the checkpoint.

According to police, the riders were clearly signalled to stop for inspection, but they ignored instructions and continued without halting. Moments later, the same youths reportedly returned along the same stretch.

In a sudden and brazen act of aggression, one of the youths allegedly picked up a broken piece of a cement sheet and directly struck one of the constables before fleeing the spot on the two-wheeler.

The injured constable has been identified as Hanumantha Kanti. Police said he managed to duck at the last moment, narrowly avoiding a potentially serious blow, but sustained minor injuries to his head in the attack.

The entire sequence of events has been recorded on CCTV cameras installed in the area, providing crucial leads for investigators.

Urva Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and have launched a manhunt to trace and identify the accused based on the CCTV footage and other technical evidence collected from the scene.
