Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 4: A touching act of kindness by a Kerala resident has gone viral on social media after an American tourist shared how he travelled for hours to personally return her lost debit card.

The traveller, identified as India Witkin from New York, recounted the experience in an Instagram video, saying the incident restored her faith in humanity during her solo trip across Kerala.

According to Witkin, she accidentally left her debit card inside an ATM in a coastal town and only realised it was missing after travelling nearly five hours away to Thiruvananthapuram.

She explained that earlier that day she had visited a DHL office to arrange a shipment to the United States and had exchanged contact details with an employee there. After discovering the card was missing, she contacted the DHL staff member and asked if he could check whether it was still at the ATM.

Witkin said she feared the card was gone for good but received welcome news the following day when the man informed her that he had found it resting on top of the ATM machine.

With only 36 hours left before her departure from India and courier services unavailable due to it being a Sunday, she thought recovering the card would be impossible.

However, the DHL employee, identified as Krishna, decided to help in an extraordinary way. Accompanied by two friends, he reportedly travelled nearly six hours in a tuk-tuk to personally deliver the card to her, completing a round trip of about 14 hours on his day off.

Witkin said she offered him money as a gesture of appreciation, but he politely declined, telling her to save it for her travels.

Sharing the story online, she described Krishna's act as one of compassion and selflessness, noting that his name coincidentally matched that of the Hindu deity associated with love, protection and kindness.

The video quickly attracted widespread attention, with many social media users sharing similar experiences of honesty and generosity from people in Kerala.

Several commenters recalled incidents where lost wallets and valuables were returned by locals, praising the state's culture of kindness and hospitality.

The heartwarming story has since resonated with thousands online, with many saying it serves as a reminder that simple acts of goodwill can leave a lasting impact.
