Udupi, June 10: Urgent repair and infrastructure improvement works at the Udupi Service Bus Stand commenced on Tuesday following the intervention of Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, addressing long-standing concerns over the condition of the city's key transport hub.
The works include repairs to the damaged roof structure and the installation of essential facilities aimed at enhancing safety, convenience and comfort for passengers and bus operators. The bus stand, which serves thousands of commuters daily, has been facing persistent issues linked to ageing infrastructure, leading to repeated demands for immediate remedial measures.

Acting on these concerns, MLA Yashpal Suvarna directed the concerned authorities to undertake the repair and maintenance works on a priority basis. The project is expected to improve commuter comfort and provide better facilities for the large number of passengers who use the bus stand every day.
The development follows media reports highlighting persistent roof leakages and other infrastructural deficiencies at the Udupi Service Bus Stand. Responding to the reports, Suvarna visited the facility on Monday, June 9, along with City Municipal Commissioner Mahantesh Hangaragi and other officials to inspect the situation and review grievances raised by commuters.
During the inspection, the MLA assessed the condition of the bus shelter, which has been causing considerable inconvenience to passengers, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season. He also held discussions with officials regarding the repair and maintenance works required at the bus stand and stressed the need for timely execution of the project.
With work now under way, commuters are expected to benefit from improved infrastructure and enhanced passenger amenities at one of Udupi's busiest public transport facilities.
