Mumbai: Social worker Shekhar J Salian honoured with ‘Samaja Seva Ratna’ Award

Mumbai, Jun 11: The Prabhat Colony Premier League-2026 Cricket Tournament was organised last Sunday at the University of Mumbai Sports Ground in Vidyanagari, Kalina. On the occasion, senior Congress leader and social worker of Prabhat Colony, Shekhar J Salian, was honoured with the prestigious ‘Samaja Seva Ratna’ title in recognition of his contributions to society.

Local corporator Pooja Vishwanath Mahadeshwar attended the programme as the chief guest. She felicitated Shekhar Salian with a shawl, bouquet, and citation, and congratulated him on receiving the honour.

Organisers recalled several noteworthy contributions made by Shekhar Salian to the community. Owing to his special efforts, a railway reservation office was opened in Santacruz East, and two lifts were installed to facilitate railway passengers.

In 2010, he donated 20 patient bed sets to V N Desai Hospital, and in 2011, he provided uniforms to a maternity hospital. He also played a significant role in ensuring the provision of Mahanagar Gas pipeline connections to residents across the Prabhat Colony area.

For many years, he has been organising health camps and has distributed free spectacles during eye treatment camps. In 2021, he facilitated Covid vaccination drives for a large number of people. He also organised several social welfare programmes at Sri Pejawar Mutt.

His contributions to environmental protection were also highlighted. As part of a tree plantation drive, more than 400 saplings were planted along Nehru Road, from Billava Bhavan and throughout the Prabhat Colony area. The organisers noted that he has tirelessly worked day and night to implement numerous social initiatives for the welfare of the community.

Among those present were Prabhat Colony organisation members and organisers Sandeep Gowda, Devadas Shanthi, Raju Shetty, and others. Sandeep Gowda welcomed the gathering and introduced Shekhar Salian and the dignitaries. Devadas Shanthi compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
