Beltangady, Mar 17: On Friday March 16, the police took into custody a person named Vijay Kadamane from Kolli village for questioning. They suspect that Vijay had extended support to naxals in holding programme at Malavantige village.

It may be recalled that the Anti Naxal Force police had raided a naxal camp near Urdyar falls  in Malavantige on Saturday last. Reportedly, the North West zonal conference of naxals was in progress there at the time, and the naxals had fled from the scene after sighting the policemen, and had fired at the ANF contingent. The police, who strongly feel that a programme of such a scale could never have been organized without the support of locals, have launched an investigation to find out such supporters. They say they have identified certain persons who supposedly supplied materials to the naxals.

In the meanwhile, speaking at Mangalore, state home minister, Ashok, said that the government had offered naxal package to enable youth who have gone wayward and got influenced by naxal ideologies, to return to mainstream. “If naxals take up guns, our response will be through guns,” he said. Replying to a query, Ashok denied reports about recovery of LTTE literature in Malavantige naxal camp, and said higher officials have been following the probe on naxal menace.
