Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 17: To investigate the lethal assault on president of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, Rahim Uchil, three special police teams have been formed. These teams, led by city crime branch inspector, Venkatesh Prasanna, inspector of Pandeshwar station, Tilak Chandra, and inspector of Bunder station, Vinay Gaonkar, have been moving on the lines of a complaint filed by Riyaz Harekal, friend of Rahim Uchil, suspecting that religious or business-related rivalry may be behind the attack. This information was given by city assistant commissioner, T R Jagannath.

The city commissioner said the police are yet to achieve any breakthrough in the case. The police are verifying the CCTV footages of buildings located around the area in an effort to get some leads.

Hospital sources said that Uchil, who suffered severe wounds in the incident, is recovering after prolonged surgery. He continues to be in the intensive care unit of the hospital. Unidentified masked miscreants, who had barged into the office of the academy at Attavar in the city on Thursday evening, had tried to kill Rahim with lethal weapons. Rahim, who suffered grievous injuries to his arms and abdomen region, was admitted into a private hospital.
