Bantwal, Mar 17: An eighth standard student of the government high school at Ajjibettu, B C Road, named Abdul Nassir (16), came in for severe corporal punishment in the hands of his teacher. Wales formed in his hands and the back, and also fever he suffers from, tell the tale of severity of punishment he suffered at school.

Nassir reportedly failed to answer a question posed to him by his Kannada teacher, Achut Bhat, it is alleged. The teacher, who arrived at the class on Thursday afternoon, started to pose questions to students to test their preparedness for the final examination. Those who could not reply were lashed with cable wire. Nassir in particular came in for harsher punishment, and therefore, suffered from fever.

The parents are a worried lot, as the final examination is set to commence on Monday. As soon information about the incident reached him, block education officer, K Sudhakar, visited the student’s home and enquired about his health. He promised the parents that such incidents will not recur. He also visited the school and warned the teacher in question, it is learnt.
